Overview
This position involves visiting long-term care facilities and assisting physicians with dental care. Key duties include maintaining clinical records via electronic medical records, and cleaning and caring for medical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist with patient care promptly and courteously.
- Review, verify, and maintain accurate clinical records, charts, and medical histories in electronic medical records.
- Ensure the integrity of all documentation.
- Update patient odontograms for each encounter.
- Pass instruments and supplies efficiently to the dentist.
- Maintain the treatment area, including evacuation, washing, isolating, drying, and illuminating.
- Provide daily feedback and collaborate with the branch office to optimize schedules and reporting.
- Manage patient flow and assist with wheelchair pushing as needed.
- Generate and balance daily production reports and post dental charges promptly.
- Care for and clean medical equipment, troubleshoot issues, and schedule maintenance.
- Clean the service area after use.
- Inspect and maintain the vehicle’s appearance and perform basic maintenance tasks.
- Manage dental supplies inventory, order supplies, and minimize waste.
- Ensure dental equipment functions properly through preventive maintenance.
- Assist in diagnosing by exposing and processing digital radiographs.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques.
- Multitask, pay attention to detail, and deliver excellent customer service.
- Have a strong knowledge of medical and dental terminology.
- Follow OSHA and HIPAA guidelines, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and staff.
- Respond to patient inquiries promptly and document interactions in EMR.
- Travel up to 100% as required.
- Support compliance programs, complete training, and report violations.
- Perform other duties as assigned and adapt to change positively.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Experience as a Medical/Dental Assistant preferred.
- Own reliable transportation, with a good driving record and insurance.
- Complete and pass a two-step TB Skin Test.
- Hepatitis B vaccination is preferred.
- Possess a state radiation license or certification.
- Good computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to follow directions and listen to patient and doctor needs.
Physical Demands
- Full body motion, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination required.
- Standing, walking, pushing, and stooping regularly.
- Frequent lifting of 50 pounds or more (particularly in dental settings).
- Ability to push patients in wheelchairs.
- Normal vision and hearing required.
- Ability to work under stress and irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
