Job description

This position is responsible for visiting long term care facilities and assisting patients and physicians with dental care. Main duties include maintaining clinical records and charts through electronic medical records, as well as care and cleaning of medical equipment.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Assist the doctor with patient care in a prompt and courteous manner.
2. Perform pretesting duties.
3. Maintain current and accurate clinical records and charts through electronic medical records.
4. Care for and clean medical equipment.
5. Clean up the service area used by the facility.
6. Assist with patient transportation.
7. Multitask effectively, pay attention to detail, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
8. Have a strong knowledge of medical and dental terminology.
9. Ensure a positive experience for patients.
10. Communicate effectively with patients, family members, providers, faculty, and staff.
11. Respond promptly to patient inquiries and document conversations in the EMR.
12. Travel up to 100% of the time as required.
13. Support and comply with all aspects of the compliance program, including training and reporting suspected violations.
14. Maintain confidentiality of all information, adhering to HIPAA and PHI guidelines.
15. Review, verify, and keep clinical records, charts, and medical histories current and accurate.
16. Ensure the integrity of all documentation.
17. Update patient odontogram for each encounter.
18. Supply instruments to the dentist efficiently for appropriate care.
19. Maintain the treatment area properly, including evacuating, washing, isolating, drying, and illuminating.
20. Provide daily feedback and collaborate with the branch office to optimize dental scheduling and reporting.
21. Manage patient flow during facility visits and assist patients in wheelchairs if needed.
22. Make in-room visits at assigned facilities as required.
23. Balance and generate daily production reports and deliver them to the dentist.
24. Post dental charges accurately and promptly to the appropriate provider.
25. Troubleshoot equipment issues and report to appropriate resources.
26. Maintain and schedule planned maintenance for dental equipment.
27. Inspect and maintain the vehicle's exterior and interior, performing routine support tasks like oil changes and refueling.
28. Manage dental supplies inventory by auditing stock, anticipating needs, and placing orders.
29. Prepare supplies efficiently, minimizing waste and duplication.
30. Ensure all dental equipment functions properly through preventive maintenance.
31. Expose and process digital dental radiographs.
32. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques.
33. Work remotely with a reliable high-speed internet connection, reporting any service interruptions immediately.
34. Maintain a good driving record, valid auto insurance, and good standing in motor vehicle reports.
35. React positively to change and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or GED.
2. Experience as a Medical/Dental Assistant preferred.
3. Own reliable transportation, with a good driving record and insurance.
4. Completed and passed a two-step Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test.
5. Hepatitis B and Flu vaccinations are preferred.
6. Possess a state radiation license or certificate.
7. Good computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology.
8. Excellent communication skills.
9. Ability to follow directions and listen to patients and doctors' needs.

Physical Demands:

Requires full body motion, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to stand, walk, push, and stoop regularly. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more, push patients in wheelchairs, and work under stressful or irregular hours. Vision and hearing must be corrected to normal. Exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids is possible.
