This position involves visiting long-term care facilities to assist patients and physicians with dental care. Main duties include maintaining clinical records, caring for and cleaning medical equipment, and supporting patient transportation.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist the doctor with patient care promptly and courteously.
- Perform pretesting duties.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and charts via electronic medical records.
- Care for and clean medical equipment.
- Clean and maintain the service area used by the facility.
- Assist with patient transportation.
- Multitask effectively, pay attention to detail, and provide excellent customer service.
- Possess strong knowledge of medical and dental terminology.
- Ensure a positive patient experience.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and staff.
- Respond promptly to patient inquiries and document conversations in the EMR.
- Travel up to 100% of the time.
- Support and comply with all aspects of the compliance program, including training and reporting violations.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and PHI guidelines.
- Review, verify, and update clinical records and medical histories in the EMR.
- Update patient odontogram for each encounter.
- Supply instruments efficiently to the dentist.
- Maintain the treatment area, including evacuating, washing, drying, and illuminating.
- Provide feedback and collaborate to optimize dental scheduling and reporting.
- Manage patient flow and assist with wheelchair transfers.
- Make in-room visits at assigned facilities as needed.
- Generate and balance daily production reports for the dentist.
- Post dental charges accurately and timely.
- Troubleshoot and report equipment issues.
- Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on dental equipment.
- Inspect and maintain the vehicle's appearance and perform basic support tasks like oil changes and refueling.
- Manage dental supplies inventory, including ordering and minimizing waste.
- Ensure dental equipment functions properly, following manufacturer instructions.
- Expose and process digital dental radiographs.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques.
- Work remotely with a reliable internet connection and report service interruptions.
- Maintain a good driving record and valid auto insurance.
- React positively to change and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Experience as a Medical/Dental Assistant preferred.
- Reliable transportation, good driving record, and insurance.
- Completion of a two-step Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test.
- Hepatitis B and Flu vaccinations are preferred.
- State radiation license or certification.
- Good computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions and listen to patient and doctor needs.
Physical Demands:
Requires full body motion, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. Must be able to stand, walk, push, and stoop regularly. Lifting of 50 pounds or more may be required. Ability to push patients in wheelchairs, with corrected vision and hearing. Must work under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids is possible.
