Job description

This position involves visiting long-term care facilities to assist patients and physicians with dental care. Key responsibilities include maintaining clinical records, caring for and cleaning medical equipment, and supporting patient transportation. The role requires excellent communication skills, knowledge of medical and dental terminology, and the ability to multitask while providing exceptional customer service.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assist the doctor with patient care promptly and courteously.
  2. Perform pretesting duties and maintain accurate electronic medical records.
  3. Care for and clean medical equipment and maintain the cleanliness of the service area.
  4. Support patient transportation and manage patient flow efficiently.
  5. Ensure positive patient experiences and communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
  6. Respond to patient inquiries and document interactions in the EMR.
  7. Travel up to 100% of the time as required.
  8. Comply with all aspects of the compliance program, including training and reporting violations.
  9. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and PHI guidelines.
  10. Update patient odontograms and supply instruments to the dentist.
  11. Maintain the treatment area and dental equipment, including preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
  12. Manage dental supplies inventory and order supplies as needed.
  13. Expose and process digital dental radiographs and educate patients on oral hygiene.
  14. Work remotely with a reliable internet connection and report service interruptions.
  15. Maintain a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and good driving record.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned and adapt to change positively.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience as a Medical/Dental Assistant preferred.
  • Own reliable transportation, with a good driving record and insurance.
  • Completed and passed a two-step Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test.
  • Hepatitis B and Flu vaccinations are preferred.
  • Possess a state radiation license or certification.
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow directions.

Physical Demands:

Requires full body motion, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. Must be able to stand, walk, push, and stoop regularly, and lift at least 50 pounds in dental settings. Ability to push patients in wheelchairs, work under stress, and exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids are expected. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range are required.
