Job description

This position involves visiting long-term care facilities and assisting patients and physicians with dental care. Key duties include maintaining clinical records, caring for and cleaning medical equipment, and supporting patient transportation.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assist the doctor with patient care promptly and courteously.
  2. Perform pretesting duties.
  3. Maintain accurate clinical records and charts via electronic medical records.
  4. Care for and clean medical equipment.
  5. Clean up the service area after use.
  6. Assist with patient transportation.
  7. Multitask effectively, pay attention to detail, and provide excellent customer service.
  8. Have a strong knowledge of medical and dental terminology.
  9. Ensure a positive patient experience.
  10. Communicate effectively with patients, family members, providers, faculty, and staff.
  11. Respond promptly to patient inquiries and document conversations in EMR.
  12. Travel up to 100% of the time.
  13. Support and comply with all aspects of the compliance program, including training and reporting violations.
  14. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and PHI guidelines.
  15. Review and verify clinical records, charts, and medical histories.
  16. Update patient odontograms for each encounter.
  17. Supply instruments to the dentist efficiently.
  18. Maintain the treatment area properly, including evacuating, washing, isolating, drying, and illuminating.
  19. Provide daily feedback and collaborate with the branch office to optimize schedules and reporting.
  20. Manage patient flow, including pushing patients in wheelchairs and making in-room visits as assigned.
  21. Balance and generate daily production reports for the dentist.
  22. Post dental charges accurately and timely.
  23. Troubleshoot equipment issues and report them appropriately.
  24. Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on dental equipment.
  25. Inspect and maintain the vehicle's appearance and perform basic support tasks like oil changes and refueling.
  26. Manage dental supplies inventory by auditing stock, anticipating needs, and placing orders.
  27. Prepare supplies efficiently, minimizing waste and duplication.
  28. Ensure dental equipment functions properly by following maintenance protocols.
  29. Expose and process digital dental radiographs.
  30. Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques.
  31. Work remotely with a reliable high-speed internet connection and report any service interruptions.
  32. Maintain a good driving record, valid auto insurance, and good standing on motor vehicle reports.
  33. Adapt positively to change and perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience as a Medical/Dental Assistant preferred.
  • Own reliable transportation with a good driving record and insurance.
  • Completed and passed a two-step Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test.
  • Hepatitis B and Flu vaccinations are preferred.
  • Possess a state radiation license or certificate.
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and listen to patients and doctors' needs.

Physical Demands:

Requires full body motion, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, standing, walking, pushing, and stooping. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more, push patients in wheelchairs, and work under stressful conditions or irregular hours. Must have corrected vision and hearing, and be exposed to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
