Job description

This position is responsible for visiting long term care facilities and assisting patients and physicians with dental care. Main duties include maintaining clinical records and charts through electronic medical records and care and cleaning of medical equipment.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Assist doctor with patient care in a prompt and courteous manner.
2. Responsible for pretesting duties.
3. Maintain current and accurate clinical records and charts through electronic medical records.
4. Care for and clean medical equipment.
5. Clean up the service area used by the facility.
6. Assist with patient transportation.
7. Multitask effectively, be detail-oriented, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
8. Have a strong knowledge of medical and dental terminology.
9. Ensure a positive experience for patients.
10. Communicate effectively with patients, family members, providers, faculty, and staff.
11. Respond to patient inquiries promptly and document conversations in the EMR.
12. Travel up to 100% of the time.
13. Support and comply with all components of the compliance program, including training and reporting suspected violations.
14. Maintain confidentiality of all information, abiding by HIPAA and PHI guidelines.
15. Review, verify, and maintain accurate clinical records, charts, and medical history via electronic records.
16. Ensure the integrity of all documentation.
17. Update the patient odontogram for each encounter.
18. Supply instruments efficiently to the dentist for appropriate care.
19. Maintain the treatment area by evacuating, washing, isolating, drying, and illuminating properly.
20. Provide daily feedback and collaborate with the branch office to optimize dental scheduling and reporting.
21. Manage patient flow during facility visits and assist with wheelchair transport if needed.
22. Make in-room visits at assigned facilities as required.
23. Balance and generate daily production reports and provide them to the dentist upon departure.
24. Accurately post dental charges to the appropriate provider in a timely manner.
25. Troubleshoot equipment issues and report them appropriately.
26. Maintain and schedule preventive maintenance for dental equipment.
27. Inspect and maintain the vehicle's exterior and interior, perform basic support tasks like oil changes, refueling, and replacing brake lights.
28. Manage dental supplies inventory by auditing stock, anticipating needs, and placing orders to minimize waste.
29. Ensure all dental equipment functions properly by performing preventive maintenance as per manufacturer instructions.
30. Expose and process digital dental radiographs.
31. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques.
32. Respond promptly to patient inquiries and document conversations in the EMR.
33. Work remotely with a reliable high-speed internet connection; report any service interruptions immediately.
34. Maintain a good driving record, valid auto insurance, and meet motor vehicle report requirements.
35. React positively to change and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED.
• Medical/Dental Assistant experience preferred.
• Reliable transportation, good driving record, and insurance.
• Completion and passing of a two-step Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test.
• Hepatitis B and Flu vaccinations are preferred.
• State radiation license or certificate required.
• Proficiency with computers and medical terminology.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to follow directions and listen to patients and doctors' needs.

Physical Demands:

Requires full body motion, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, standing, walking, pushing, and stooping periodically. Frequent lifting of 50 pounds or more, pushing patients in wheelchairs, corrected vision and hearing, work under stress or irregular hours, and exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
