Job description

The Opportunity

Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process.

You will report to the Assistant Center Manager.

The Role

  1. Assist qualified donors in completing the screening process in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This includes assessing self-administered health histories, answering basic medical questions related to donation, referring donors to medical staff when needed, and performing health screenings such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature. Also, perform finger sticks to measure hematocrit and total protein levels.
  2. After appropriate training, educate new donors about therapeutic products made from plasma, explaining the screening process, health tests, appointment system, donation fees, policies, nutrition, and other relevant information. Ensure all donor questions are answered promptly and professionally.
  3. Register applicants and transfer donors as trained, based on operational needs.
  4. Answer incoming calls and direct callers to appropriate staff.
  5. Monitor donors for reactions during or after pheresis and notify staff if needed.
  6. Alert supervisors about donor flow issues.
  7. Accurately record donor data in the electronic management system following SOPs.
  8. Understand policies related to hyperimmune programs if applicable.
  9. Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring supplies are available, and follow all health, safety, and environmental policies, promoting safety at all times.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  11. Cross-train in other areas as needed.
  12. Possibly utilize bilingual skills to meet organizational needs.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Your Skills and Experience

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • At least three months of experience in a clerical or customer service role, preferably in a medical or healthcare environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic math skills are required.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to understand, remember, and follow instructions.
  • Follow safety guidelines and instructions.
  • Ability to see, speak with customers, and observe equipment operation.
  • Stand and walk frequently, sometimes up to 100% of the time.
  • Reach, bend, kneel, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Work overtime and extended hours as needed.
