Medical Screener - Reception Technician (Customer Service)

Job Description Summary

Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for plasma pheresis.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Assist qualified donors in completing screening processes, including health history assessment, medical questions, and health screenings such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature; perform finger sticks for hematocrit and protein levels.
  2. Educate new donors on plasma donation processes, answering questions about screening, health tests, appointment system, fees, policies, nutrition, and other relevant topics.
  3. Register applicants and transfer donors as needed, following training and operational requirements.
  4. Answer phone calls and direct inquiries appropriately.
  5. Monitor donors during and after the pheresis process for reactions and notify staff if needed.
  6. Report donor flow issues to supervisors.
  7. Accurately record donor data in the electronic management system per SOPs.
  8. Understand policies related to hyper immune programs, if applicable.
  9. Maintain a clean, organized work environment and ensure supplies are stocked.
  10. Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies, promoting safety.
  11. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  12. Cross-train in other areas as needed.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 months experience in clerical or customer service roles, preferably in healthcare.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Good communication skills to interact with customers and observe equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk frequently, reach, bend, kneel, and perform manual tasks.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with potential exposure to hazards and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Availability to work overtime and extended hours as needed.
