Job summary

Indian Health Service is seeking a Medical Technician (Laboratory Support) to perform clinical tests across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking. You will collect specimens, maintain instruments, and support quality control and accreditation activities.

The role requires attention to documentation, adherence to CAP/CLIA standards, and strong teamwork to support accurate patient results in a federal health program.

Qualifications

• Six months general experience or more demonstrated in a related field.
• Specialized laboratory experience in clinical testing and reporting findings.
• Associate degree with lab training in a certified program; or relevant combinations of education/experience.
• GS-04: requires six months general and six months specialized experience or equivalent education.
• GS-05: one year specialized experience or a bachelor’s degree candidates.
• GS-06/07: progression with increased responsibility in lab testing and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking.
• Evaluate test results and troubleshoot procedures for accuracy.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Collect and process patient specimens; prepare them for analysis or referral testing.
• Validate and document results, and support quality assurance and compliance activities.
