Job summary

The Indian Health Service is seeking a Medical Technician (Laboratory Support) to perform clinical laboratory tests across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking, delivering accurate results for patient care in American Indian communities.

You will collect specimens, operate and maintain equipment, document results, and help ensure CLIA/CAP compliance while contributing to quality assurance and reporting to healthcare providers.

Qualifications

• GS-04: six months general and six months specialized laboratory experience, or an approved education path.
• GS-05: one year of specialized experience or a related degree; substitution options available.
• GS-06/07: progressively responsible lab testing, result validation, and instrument maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and blood banking.
• Evaluate test results, troubleshoot, and ensure accuracy of findings.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain laboratory instruments and prepare reagents and media.
• Collect and process specimens, track in LIS, and ensure specimen integrity.
• Validate and document results; communicate with healthcare providers; support QA and compliance.
