Job summary

Indian Health Service is seeking a Medical Technician (Laboratory Support) to perform and support a broad range of clinical Laboratory tests and to ensure high-quality patient results. The role includes specimen collection, processing, and reporting with strict adherence to CAP/CLIA guidelines.

The position requires hands-on use of laboratory instruments, documentation, and collaboration with healthcare teams to maintain quality assurance and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Six months general experience or training in a lab or related field.
• Six months specialized experience in CLIA-compliant medical lab support tasks.
• Completion of an associate degree program including lab-related coursework.
• Alternative combinations of education and experience as described in the job notice.

Responsibilities

• Perform and support a range of clinical laboratory tests (chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, immunology, serology, blood banking).
• Evaluate test results and troubleshoot abnormal findings to ensure accuracy.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment; manage reagents and quality control.
• Collect, process, and track patient specimens; prepare specimens for analysis or referral testing.
• Validate and document laboratory results; communicate with healthcare providers; support quality and accreditation activities.
