Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a detail-oriented medical coder to review medical records and assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes. You will abstract data elements for statistical requests and ensure timely entry into the coding system.

You will stay updated on coding guidelines and participate in training, contributing to efficient cash flow through accurate unbilled reports and collaborating with care teams.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Completed coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year hospital and/or physician coding experience.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations, and/or E/Ms.
• Medical terminology proficiency.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Understanding of computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Review and assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes based on medical records (65%).
• Abstract data elements for statistical requests and enter into designated system (15%).
• Support unbilled coding reports to assist cash flow (10%).
• Stay current with ICD-10-CM/CPT updates through training and clinics (5%).
• Perform additional duties as assigned (5%).
