Qualifications

• High School or GED required with coding courses in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• 1 year hospital and/or physician coding experience; 1 year coding in mid-level facilities or clinics.
• Experience coding major surgeries, observations, and/or E/Ms; knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT.
• Terminology proficiency and strong data entry, with basic computer literacy.
• Ability to work with health care team members and adhere to privacy standards.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes (65%).
• Abstracts data elements for statistical requests and enters data into systems (15%).
• Manages unbilled coding reports to support cash flow (10%).
• Keeps current with ICD-10-CM/CPT guideline updates and applies them (5%).
• Performs other duties as assigned (5%).
