Qualifications

• High School / GED
• 1 year in Hospital coding
• Completed coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
• CCS or CIC REQUIRED
• Familiarity with medical terminology
• Strong data entry skills
• An understanding of computer applications
• Ability to work with members of the health care team

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine appropriate ICD codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters coded/abstracted information into the designated system.
• Ensures efficient management of medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports.
• Keeps informed of updates in ICD guidelines by training and reviewing coding resources and applying updates in daily work.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
