Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a skilled medical coder to perform thorough medical record reviews, abstract data elements, and assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures. The role supports cash flow by managing the unbilled coding report and staying current with coding guidelines.

Ideal candidates have 1 year of hospital/physician coding, strong data entry, and familiarity with HIPAA and privacy policies. Certifications such as RHIT/RHIA/CPC are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School/GED required.
• Completed coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year hospital/physician coding experience.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• Strong data entry skills.
• Understanding of computer applications.
• Ability to work with health care team.
• Licensure/certifications: RHIT/RHIA/CCS-P/CPC/COC/CPC-A Apprentice.

Responsibilities

• Review and assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstract data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enter into designated system.
• Support unbilled coding report to manage cash flow.
• Stay updated on ICD-10-CM/CPT guidelines and apply changes.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
