Job summary

Atrius Health, part of the Optum family, is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinicians in exam rooms across our eastern Massachusetts sites. You will handle routine clinical tasks, prepare patients, take vital signs, and help keep the EMR current.

This role emphasizes efficient patient flow, clear communication, and teamwork with care teams, laboratories, and medical staff. Training is provided, with opportunities to advance within a values-driven care system.

Qualifications

• Requires High School diploma or equivalent or Medical Assistant Certification.
• 1+ years of clinical or customer service experience preferred.
• ACLS may be required depending on the department.
• BLS or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire is required.
• Knowledge of reagent stability and storage is preferred.
• Understanding of testing procedures and factors affecting results.
• Experience with word processing and spreadsheets; EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide efficient flow of patients to optimize appointment availability.
• Greet and escort patients to exam rooms.
• Prepare patients for examination and measure vital signs.
• Assist clinicians with routine procedures and tests for the department.
• Update EMR with medical information and demographics.
• Inform patients of visit status and delays.
• Reconcile medications and set up pending refills; discontinue inactive prescriptions.
• Assist with patient concerns and complaints as appropriate.
• Order and perform point-of-care waived testing (e.g., strep, urine, hCG, glucose).
