Job summary

Atrius Health, part of the Optum family, is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinicians with routine procedures and tests in the exam room. The role includes preparing patients, taking vitals, updating the EMR, and ensuring accurate patient information for timely care.

Responsibilities also include triaging patient questions, maintaining exam room flow, and performing waived point-of-care tests. A high school diploma or MA certification and computer skills are required; BLS is preferred

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency certificate or Medical Assistant Certification.
• Computer experience.
• Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program is preferred.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• EMR experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience.
• Experience typically acquired through a minimum of one-year prior experience in a clinical or customer service setting as determined by the department.
• Knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
• Understands the testing procedure and factors influencing test results.

Responsibilities

• Provides efficient flow of patients to optimize patient appointment availability.
• Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms according to policy and procedures.
• Prepare patient for examination; measures vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, weight, height).
• Assist clinicians with routine clinical procedures and/or additional tests specific to the department.
• Ensures EMR is updated with medical information and accurate demographics, medications, allergies and chief medical complaints.
• Keeps patients informed of visit status and delays.
• Reconcile medications and set up pending refills; discontinue inactive prescriptions.
• Assist in resolving minor patient concerns and complaints.
• Orders and performs point-of-care testing (strep, urine, hCG, glucose) as waived testing.
