Job summary

TETER Architects and Engineers is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead the design and coordination of HVAC and plumbing systems for diverse building projects. You’ll work with architects, engineers, clients, and consultants, guiding projects from design through construction while mentoring junior staff.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience and a CA PE license (or ability to obtain within six months), a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and AutoCAD; Revit/BIM

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Current registration as a Mechanical Professional Engineer in California, or the ability to obtain California registration within six months of employment.
• Experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, or other building projects.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD; working knowledge of Revit/BIM strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and documentation of HVAC and plumbing systems that meet client goals, project requirements, and applicable codes.
• Perform and oversee engineering calculations, equipment selection, and technical analyses that support thoughtful building system design.
• Coordinate with architects, structural, electrical, civil, and other project team members to develop integrated design solutions.
• Guide project scope, schedules, and discipline-specific budgets while helping projects stay on track.
• Provide construction support through submittal reviews, RFIs, field observations, and problem-solving during construction.
• Mentor EITs, junior engineers, and drafters by sharing technical knowledge, providing guidance, and supporting their professional growth.
• Contribute to quality by participating in QA/QC reviews and continuously improving design standards and project delivery.
