Job summary

Ingersoll Rand in Moody, AL seeks a Manual Machinist (2nd Shift) to join our precision-focused team. This role performs setups on large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump components and operates large lathes to repair pumps and compressors, reading blueprints and using precision gauges.

You will work 2nd shift Mon–Thu 8:00 PM–6:00 AM, with a $3.00 per hour shift differential and a $3,500 sign-on bonus for eligible hires. We value craftsmanship, safety, and collaboration and offer opportunities to grow.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of machine setup and usage of machine controls.
• 3+ years of experience as a machine operator/Machinist.
• 2+ years reading and interpreting blueprints.
• 1+ years operating King-style boring mills and/or vertical turning lathes (VTLs).
• Ability to use precision measurement tools safely and accurately.

Responsibilities

• Performs set ups of large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump components and operations of large Vertical & Horizontal Lathes used to repair and overhaul Large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps & Compressors.
• Interprets blueprints/drawings to determine critical dimensions and tolerances; uses micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators and other precision measuring tools.
• Maintains tight tolerances as indicated by drawings, occasionally as precise as .0005 inches.
• Selects appropriate cutting tools and determines speeds/feeds for proper surface finish.
• Overtime may be required, including weekends.
• Operates forklift and overhead crane safely; adheres to EH&S & QMS.
• Lifts and rigs heavy components; assists in disassembly/reassembly and rebuilding.
• Cross-trains in fabrication, assembly, rotar balancing.
