Job summary

Valmont Industries, Inc. seeks a Maintenance Supervisor to lead the Maintenance Department, coordinating resources during emergencies and overseeing a team up to 25 direct reports.

The role reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and collaborates with site managers and contractors on upgrades and reliability initiatives. Responsibilities include administering the preventive maintenance program, ensuring OSHA/EPA compliance, and optimizing maintenance costs and equipment uptime.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or Technical Degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field with a minimum of four years relevant experience.
  • Two years of previous work experience in a leadership role.
  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 5% travel may be required).
  • Basic understanding of engineering knowledge and ability to understand engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated strong communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Project or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and discretion requiring minimum supervision.
  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing/facility equipment operations.
  • Understanding of OSHA standards for General Industry.
  • Self‑starter with ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate files in compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Administer the preventive maintenance program for all production equipment.
  • Organize and control the use of maintenance resources to improve costs and reliability.
  • Instill safety, environmental compliance, and quality service in all staff.
  • Manage and control use of outside contractors/services to supplement in-house resources.
  • Select and implement maintenance systems and controls to manage resources.
  • Work with Engineers, Managers, Supervisors, and contractors on equipment upgrade/replacement projects.
  • Schedule training to upgrade skills of personnel and expand maintenance capabilities.
  • Maintain harmonious relationships with staff and be on site 5 days per week.
  • Flex hours to align with 24/7 operation and on-call needs.
  • Implement work schedules to maximize manpower and machines utilization.
  • Assist teams in problem solving, project justification, and implementation.
  • Define performance standards and monitor/correct as needed.
  • Observe equipment operation and recommend improvements or new machines.
  • Maintain machine information/history files.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory.
  • Understand hazardous waste management basics.
  • Promote continuous improvement among employees.
  • Communicate status to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Administer company policies with HR support.
  • Maintain safe housekeeping and incident reporting.
  • Train new employees and align with company goals.
  • Learn and apply safety training.
  • All other duties as assigned.
