Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced M&P engineer to support aerospace materials and processes, including aluminum, steel, inconel, coatings, and cryogenic environments. You will ensure parts meet vehicle system requirements, perform qualification activities, and sign off on engineering drawings.

Role requires 6+ years in M&P within production space programs, tribology expertise, and the ability to travel to Blue Origin and vendor sites.

Qualifications

  • Minimum a B.S. in Aerospace, Materials Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of demonstrated M&P engineering experience on a production space program.
  • Demonstrated expertise in tribology, including lubrication science, surface coatings, and wear mechanisms.
  • Experience with solid film and liquid lubricants for space and vacuum environments.
  • Experience in materials and manufacturing process review and selection, development, and qualification.
  • Experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components, materials, and processes.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17).
  • Ability to travel to support development and testing opportunities at other Blue Origin and vendor sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide M&P engineering support for aerospace grade materials and processes.
  • Provide design engineering support ensuring parts meet requirements for vehicle systems.
  • Execute characterization and qualification efforts related to materials and processes.
  • Review production drawings for large complex assemblies and document reviews.
  • Responsible for M&P signatory release of engineering drawings.
  • Evaluate lubricants, coatings, and surface treatments for vacuum and cryogenic applications.
  • Characterize friction, wear, and lubrication behavior through testing.
  • Support internal and external M&P efforts including supplier qualification and testing.
  • Support development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize material evaluation and qualification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the Lunar organization and other units.
