Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking talented M&P Engineers to join the Lunar Permanence team to develop and mature materials and processes for space hardware. You will contribute from concept through manufacturing, ensuring materials and processes meet stringent spacecraft requirements and support cross-functional integration with other Blue Origin units.

You will perform design support, qualification planning, and execution, including signatory release of drawings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of demonstrated M&P Engineering experience on a production space program.
  • Demonstrated expertise in tribology, including lubrication science, surface coatings, and wear mechanisms.
  • Experience with solid film and liquid lubricants for space and vacuum environments.
  • Experience in materials and manufacturing process review and selection, development, and qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components, materials, and processes.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g.MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17).
  • Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company accessible database.
  • Ability to travel to support development and testing opportunities at other Blue Origin and vendor sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide M&P engineering support for aerospace grade materials and processes including: aluminum, steel, inconel, copper, bronze; forming, extrusion, plating, coating, welding, brazing, anodization, and passivation.
  • Provide design engineering support for mechanical systems and mechanism assemblies such that all parts, materials, and processes meet necessary requirements for all vehicle systems.
  • Execute characterization and qualification efforts related to materials and processes
  • Review production drawing for large complex assemblies systematically, documenting the review to the established requirements
  • Responsible for M&P signatory release of engineering drawings for parts and assemblies
  • Evaluate and select lubricants, dry-film coatings, and surface treatments for vacuum, cryogenic, and high-cycle-life applications
  • Characterize friction, wear, and lubrication behavior through analysis and laboratory testing
  • Support internal and external M&P efforts, including development of specifications, supplier qualification, First Article Inspection, mechanical testing, and customer-facing updates
  • Support the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification
  • Work with cross-functional teams within the Lunar organization and other business units.
