Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Materials and Processes Engineer III – Mechanisms for the Lunar Permanence program. You will support aerospace materials, processes, and mechanism assemblies from design through manufacturing to meet spacecraft requirements.

You will lead material data analysis, testing, and qualification efforts, collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure safe, repeatable spaceflight.

Qualifications

• Minimum a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years of demonstrated M&P engineering experience on a production space program.
• Expertise in tribology, lubrication science, surface coatings, and wear mechanisms.
• Experience with solid film and liquid lubricants for space and vacuum environments.
• Experience in materials and manufacturing process review, development and qualification.
• Experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification.
• Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g. MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17).
• Experience organizing materials/process data in accessible databases.
• Ability to travel for development/testing at Blue Origin and vendor sites.
• M.S. or Ph.D. in related field and testing experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide M&P engineering support for aerospace materials and processes including metals and treatments.
• Design engineering support for mechanical systems and mechanism assemblies to meet vehicle requirements.
• Execute characterization and qualification efforts related to materials and processes.
• Review production drawings for large assemblies and document reviews to requirements.
• Responsible for M&P signatory release of engineering drawings.
• Evaluate lubricants, dry-film coatings, and surface treatments for vacuum/cryogenic/high-cycle-life applications.
• Characterize friction, wear and lubrication behavior through testing.
• Support internal/external M&P efforts including specs, supplier qualification, FAI, testing, updates.
• Help develop internal engineering and quality processes to standardize material evaluation and qualification.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Lunar organization teams and other units.
