Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking talented M&P Engineers to join the Lunar Permanence team. You will support aerospace materials and processes from design through manufacturing, ensuring compliance with spacecraft requirements and safety standards.

The role involves cross-functional collaboration, signatory releases for parts and assemblies, and development of test plans to qualify materials and processes for vacuum and cryogenic environments.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years M&P engineering experience on a production space program.
  • Expertise in tribology, lubrication, coatings and wear mechanisms.
  • Experience with solid/liquid lubricants for vacuum/space.
  • Experience in materials/process review, development and qualification.
  • Ability to develop and execute test plans for components, materials and processes.
  • Knowledge of industry data standards (MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17).
  • Experience organizing materials/process data in accessible databases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide M&P engineering support for aerospace materials and processes (aluminum, steel, inconel, copper, bronze).
  • Provide design engineering support for mechanical systems and assemblies to meet vehicle requirements.
  • Execute characterization and qualification efforts related to materials and processes.
  • Review production drawings for large assemblies and document reviews.
  • Responsible for M&P signatory release of drawings for parts/assemblies.
  • Evaluate lubricants, coatings, and surface treatments for vacuum/cryogenic/high-cycle-life applications.
  • Characterize friction, wear, and lubrication behavior through testing.
  • Support internal/external M&P efforts, including specifications, supplier qualification, First Article Inspection, testing, updates.
  • Support development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize material evaluation and qualification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Lunar organization and other units.
