Job summary

The City of Fort Smith is seeking a skilled Water Line Maintenance Technician to install, maintain and repair water systems and to monitor water quality during shutdowns. You will interact with commercial, industrial, and residential customers to explain work scope and ensure safe, reliable service.

Under supervision, you will operate heavy equipment, locate lines, load utilities, and supervise crew on site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDL Class A with Trailer and Air Brake Endorsement required or obtainable with two years.
• Water distribution experience or training essential.
• Certifications: Excavation and safety trainings listed above.
• Experience operating heavy construction equipment and trucks.

Responsibilities

• Install large industrial, commercial, and smaller residential meters.
• Operate heavy construction equipment, dump truck, and backhoe safely.
• Load and unload equipment from trailer safely.
• Ensure equipment is functioning and well maintained.
• Drive between job sites and manage on-site equipment.
• Dig around utility lines and ensure trench safety.
• Classify soil types and excavate to meet safety standards.
• Operate in busy urban environments and restore excavation sites.
• Provide instructions and supervise crew on site.
• Utilize Itron software to install/repair ERTs and diagnose issues.
• Assess site safety and respond to leaks reported by customers.
• Maintain good relationships with commercial and residential customers.
