Job summary

The City of La Marque is seeking a Water Utility Repair & Maintenance Technician to join the Water Utility team. You will assist with locating leaks, replacing meters, maintaining valves and hydrants, and supporting field operations.

Job duties include on-site excavation, safety compliance, recordkeeping, and responding to water emergencies as part of on-call duties. A high school diploma and some related experience are preferred; physical stamina and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in water utilities, construction, or public works preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors and with manual labor safely.
  • Strong problem-solving and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in locating and repairing water main and service line leaks.
  • Replace or install water meters, valves, and hydrants as directed by the Foreman.
  • Support flushing of water lines and pressure testing procedures.
  • Prepare work sites, perform excavation, and restore surfaces after repairs.
  • Document work performed, materials used, and time spent on repairs.
  • Relay field conditions and progress updates to the Foreman.
  • Interact professionally with residents during repairs and service activities.
  • Respond to water line breaks, leaks, or emergencies as part of the on-call rotation.
  • Assist with after-hours and weather-related utility emergencies as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

The Water Utility Technician performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of the City’s water distribution system. Working directly under the Water Utility Foreman, the technician assists with locating and repairing leaks, replacing service lines, maintaining valves and hydrants, and supporting field operations. The role requires physical labor, problem-solving, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Water Utility Repair & Maintenance
  • Assist in locating and repairing water main and service line leaks.
  • Replace or install water meters, valves, and hydrants as directed by the Foreman.
  • Support flushing of water lines and pressure testing procedures.
  • Prepare work sites, perform excavation, and restore surfaces after repairs.
Equipment & Safety Compliance
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Comply with traffic control, trench safety, and PPE requirements at job sites.
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report any issues.
Recordkeeping & Communication
  • Document work performed, materials used, and time spent on repairs.
  • Relay field conditions and progress updates to the Foreman.
  • Interact professionally with residents during repairs and service activities.
Emergency Response & On-Call Duties
  • Respond to water line breaks, leaks, or emergencies as part of the on-call rotation.
