Job Summary: The incumbent under the guidance of the Water Line Maintenance Supervisor installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs water system. Assist in water quality monitoring in shutdowns to protect public health. Communicates with commercial, industrial, and residential customers to explain scope of work. Makes sure the job is completed correctly and maintains a safe work site at all times. Provide excellent customer service in all aspects of job.

- 1. Install large industrial, commercial, and smaller residential meters.
- 2. Operate assigned heavy construction equipment, dump truck, and backhoe in a safe manner.
- 3. Load and off load heavy equipment from trailer in the safest manner possible.
- 4. Ensure dump truck, backhoe, and assigned equipment are functioning.
- 5. Drive from one job site to another, load and unload equipment in congested neighborhoods.
- 6. Ensure equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance and minor repairs are performed as needed.
- 7. Dig up or around Fiber Optic lines, High/Low voltage electric lines, High/Low pressure gas lines, Telephone lines, Video/Communication lines and other utility lines on daily basis.
- 8. Must be able to classify soil types for stability and excavate area to meet sloping, benching and trench box guidelines for the safety of the crew.
- 9. Must be able to operate in busy urban environments such as in streets, curb and gutter, bar ditches, drainage easements, highways, highway right of ways, parking lots, sidewalks, driveways, etc.
- 10. Must be able to backfill and restore excavation sites to their original condition. This includes sloping ditches, excavate to grade for repair by other departments.
- 11. Skill in providing verbal instructions and physical demonstrations of tasks to be performed.
- 12. Oversee crew on the job site to meet all job and safety standards.
- 13. Install, repair, diagnose and repair ERT’s with use of Itron software.
- 14. Assess safety of job site and take appropriate action.
- 15. Check leaks called in by customers both during and after hours to determine need of repair.
- 16. Maintain equipment in good working order.
- 17. Ensure the truck is stocked with everything necessary to complete a job.
- 18. Maintain good relationships with commercial & residential customers.
- 19. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
- 20. Locate water lines in field as needed to prevent damages and loss of services.
- 21. Regular attendance and timeliness is required.
Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid Class “A” CDL License with, Trailer and Air Brake Endorsement.
- One (1) year experience working in utilities field with Construction and Job Safety skills required.
- Previous water distribution experience or training is essential to this position.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as a truck driver and in operating heavy construction equipment.
- Experience essential to preclude errors that are costly and require considerable time to correct.
- We require that you get certified in Competent Person Excavation, Excavation Trench Safety, Confined Space Entry, Backhoe and Excavator training, Asbestos training.
- Must have a Class IV Water Distribution License as issued by the State of Arkansas, or be able to obtain License within two years of being placed in the position.
- Will be require that you get certified in Competent Person Excavation, Excavation Trench Safety, Confined Space Entry, Asbestos training, Heartsaver CPR, and Flagger certification by the American Traffic Safety Services Association.

- The incumbent should possess knowledge of the use of tools and equipment used in the department.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment with aptitude to learn new software applications.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
- Problem solving, speed and accuracy are required to perform the duties of this position.
- The incumbent must have good verbal and written communications skills as well as good organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
