Job summary

City of Big Spring is seeking a skilled Water and Sewer Maintenance Technician to assist with installation, repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines. This position serves as lead worker at the work site and works outdoors under varied conditions.

Responsibilities include laying out lines, taps, locating leaks, installing meters and valves, and coordinating with other utilities. A CDL Class B and a High School Diploma or equivalent are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• One year of experience in general underground utility construction maintenance or plumbing activities.
• Commercial Driver's (CDL) Class B license within 90 days of transfer.
• Knowledge of safety policies and procedures for City work.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains and repairs water and sewer lines.
• Lays out water and sewer lines and makes taps for new services.
• Locates leaks and flushes water lines; troubleshoots utilities.
• Installs water meters and cut-off valves; backfills excavated areas.
• Responds to emergency service calls; keeps trucks and sites clean.
