Job summary

The City of Fort Smith is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform a variety of bench, hand tool, field and machine operations for building and equipment maintenance. Under the Maintenance Supervisor, you will engage in multi-trade tasks with precision.

Responsibilities include maintaining wastewater facilities equipment, inspecting pumps, repairing plumbing and fabricating components. Overtime and emergency responses may be required; residence within 40 minutes is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; valid driver's license.
• 1 year maintenance or related experience preferred; ability to obtain safety certifications within 2 years.
• Good problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Adjust, clean and repair mechanical equipment in wastewater facilities.
• Dismantle and inspect machinery for maintenance and repair.
• Construct building partitions; replace roofs, doors and windows as needed.
• Operate welding equipment, cut and fit metal; fabricate equipment.
• Repair and replace plant plumbing and fixtures.
• Paint and maintain wastewater pump stations.
• Perform pump station inspections as required by regulators.
• Must reside within 40 minutes of the Maintenance Center for emergency response.
• Overtime, callout or standby as required.
• Regular attendance and timeliness are required.
