Job summary

The City of Fort Smith is seeking an Equipment Operator to perform general labor and operate various construction equipment for water and sewer line maintenance. duties include repairing mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, and transmission lines while complying with City, State, Federal regulations and AWWA standards.

Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, transporting gear between sites, and working in busy urban environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Class A CDL with no air brake restriction required within 9 months of appointment.
• All special skills may be acquired on the job.
• The incumbent must possess or obtain within 9 months a Class A CDL with no air brake restriction.
• CDL licenses and equipment operating experience are essential.

Responsibilities

• Operate assigned small and heavy construction equipment in a safe manner.
• Load and offload heavy equipment from trailers safely.
• Ensure equipment is operating properly and maintained.
• Drive between job sites and manage equipment in congested areas.
• Dig around utility lines and prepare surfaces for repairs.
• Backfill and restore excavation sites to original condition.
• Participate in stand-by and callout rotations as needed.
• Maintain residence within 40-minute driving time to the City Maintenance Center.
