Job summary

RTX in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Principal System Safety Engineer to lead system safety activities across the lifecycle, from design to disposal. The role requires an active DoD security clearance and extensive MIL-STD-882E experience.

You will develop safety programs, analyze risks, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure hazard elimination and strong safety culture while supporting program schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
• Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses.
• Experience writing technical reports and presentations.
• Experience briefing safety status to safety approval authority at technical reviews or safety boards.
• Experience managing or owning a safety program.

Responsibilities

• Develop MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs and analyses.
• Interpret requirements and standards to guide compliance strategies to leadership.
• Coordinate across teams to eliminate hazards and implement controls.
• Create and manage safety strategies within the IMS and ensure contract compliance.
