Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Lead System Protection Engineer to join the Grid Services team in the United States. You will lead protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks, while supporting P&C design for high‑voltage projects.

You will perform short‑circuit analyses, relay coordination, and configure relays with SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista, managing data in Powerbase and ensuring IEEE/ANSI/NERC compliance. Hybrid work is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 10+ years of system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Proficiency with relay configuration tools including SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista.
• Ability to check and interpret P&C drawings and ensure compliance with IEEE/ANSI/NERC standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to coordinate with utility clients and field teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks.
• Perform short‑circuit analyses, relay coordination, and time‑current curve development.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and documentation in Powerbase; align settings with client standards.
• Support event analysis, misoperation investigations, and protection issue resolution.
• Develop and review P&C design documents with substation teams; provide protection requirements.
• Support commissioning and field energization activities and respond to RFIs.
