Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. The role focuses on protection philosophies, relay settings, and power system studies for transmission and substation projects, with a secondary role in P&C design coordination.

You will configure protective relays (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista) and use CAPE/ASPEN for analysis, while ensuring compliance with standards and client requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• 10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Experience with relay settings, protection studies, and coordination.
• Knowledge of CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Experience with protective-relay configuration tools (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista).

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, capacitor/reactor banks, and station services.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time-current curve development.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor-based protection relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and data in Powerbase and align with client standards and change control.
• Support event analysis, misoperation investigations, and field questions related to protection and control, including P&C design coordination.
