Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. The role centers on protection engineering for transmission/substation projects and includes supporting P&C design for high‑voltage systems.

You will lead development of protection philosophies, settings, and studies, while coordinating with design and commissioning teams. Ideal candidates have 10+ years in system protection, strong knowledge of CAPE/ASPEN, and experience with relay software such as SEL

Qualifications

ABET‑accredited Electrical Engineering degree required.
10+ years in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
Experience with protection studies and relay settings development.
Familiarity with applicable standards (IEEE, ANSI, NERC/PRC).

Responsibilities

Lead protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and switchgear.
Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current studies using CAPE/ASPEN.
Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays with SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, and other tools.
Develop P&C design documents (one‑lines, drawings, wiring, logic diagrams) in coordination with substation teams.
Support field commissioning, RFI responses, and misoperation investigations as part of project delivery.
Ensure protection schemes comply with client standards, NERC PRC, and industry best practices.
