Job summary

Gridworks is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer specializing in substations, HV equipment supports, and transmission lines to lead design and act as Engineer of Record. You will seal drawings, coordinate with EPC teams, and guide 15–25% site travels across North America.

You'll review external EOR submissions, mentor junior engineers, and help develop standards for substation and transmission practice while ensuring schedule and budget alignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 10–15 years of progressive structural engineering experience focused on substation, high-voltage, and/or transmission projects.
• Active PE license; ability to obtain NM PE within 6 months and other state licensures as needed.
• Experience as Engineer of Record on substations/transmission projects.
• Experience reviewing external EOR calculations and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Engineer of Record: seal and stamp drawings for substations, switchyards, and transmission lines.
• Lead substation structural design of HV equipment supports and foundations.
• Engineer steel transmission structures (monopoles, lattices, H-frames).
• Design drilled piers, grillage, and direct-embed foundations; coordinate geotechnical work.
• Apply standards: ASCE 113, ASCE 10, ASCE 48, IEEE 605, NESC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318.
• Collaborate with EPC self-perform teams; align with project schedules and budgets.
• Travel to project sites (15–25%) for site walks, inspections, and QA/QC.
• Review vendor submittals and verify calculations; lead external EOR coordination when applicable.
