Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV and EHV substations. You will guide design teams, prepare relay philosophies, and coordinate with clients and vendors to deliver complete designs.

The role is hybrid, requiring three days in the office and two remote, with relocation assistance depending on location. Candidates should have a BS in engineering, 12+ years of substation design experience, and PE licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required.
• 12+ years experience designing substations at 138kV and above.
• PE license.
• Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role.
• Experience in relay calculations and supporting documentation.
• Familiarity with design codes and standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI).
• Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, CDEGS or vendor software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design substations and perform relay and protection studies.
• Prepare relaying philosophies, equipment configurations and SCADA concepts.
• Mentor junior and senior engineers and coordinate design phases.
• Perform reviews of existing facilities and present findings to clients.
• Coordinate with clients, project managers, and vendors to ensure timely design.
• Develop studies for client and peer review.
