Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Substation Project Engineer - Lead Professional to support scoping, design, and project coordination for high‑voltage substations. The role, based in Amarillo, TX with remote work possibilities, involves leading multi‑discipline teams and guiding complex drawings and specifications.

You will collaborate with regulators, clients, and contractors to ensure safe, compliant, and on‑time project delivery, with occasional travel to client sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer delivering design for power projects.
• Proficiency in electrical engineering principles and design/build processes.
• Experience with electrical infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
• Knowledge of engineering codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Ability to lead junior team members and coordinate subcontractors.
• Preferred: PE license, Master’s degree, HAZWOPER training.

Responsibilities

• Support scoping of projects at 0–30% stage.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams for substation scoping.
• Perform high‑level design reviews of Substation packages.
• Ensure scope alignment with stakeholders.
• Mentor others in substation design including diagrams, wiring, SCADA, and grounds.
• Develop project schedules and budgets, support reporting.
• Coordinate electrical infrastructure design plans with owners, disciplines, and clients.
• Travel to client offices as required.
