Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Substation Project Engineer for our Houston, TX office with consideration for Austin, TX. You will guide multi‑site substation design efforts, ensuring adherence to IEEE, NESC, ANSI, and NERC standards while coordinating with the Power & Energy Substation Team.

You will oversee design, development, and construction activities for utility, industrial, and commercial substations, playing a critical role from concept through commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 7 to 10 years of relevant post‑education experience in substation design for power projects.
• Professional Engineer License.
• Proficiency in substation design principles and related codes.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for projects, ensuring code compliance.
• Apply high‑level electrical engineering methods to concept development, design, procurement, and construction.
• Develop single line diagrams, layouts, grounding, and protection system designs.
• Manage cross‑functional teams, budgets, schedules, and QA/QC across multiple projects.
• Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and risk mitigation recommendations.
• Engage with regulators, owners, and subcontractors to advance project milestones.
