Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply expertise in protective relaying and controls for HV and EHV substations. You will guide teams, prepare relay philosophies, and coordinate with clients and vendors to deliver complete, timely designs.

The role includes mentoring engineers, reviewing calculations, and offering field verification at sites. A strong background in 138kV+ substations and PE licensure is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required.
• 12+ years experience designing substations at 138kV and above.
• PE license required.
• Experience as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role.
• Experience with relay calculations documentation.
• Familiarity with design techniques for technical plans and drawings.
• Proficiency with engineering software (SKM/ETAP/ASPEN/CDEGS).
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI codes.
• Experience with protective relay equipment (SEL/ABB/GE/Areva/Basler).
• Proficiency with MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection and controls design efforts for HV substations.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, clients, and suppliers.
• Prepare relay philosophies and configuration concepts.
• Mentor junior engineers and review designs.
• Travel to client/vendor sites for design reviews and field verification.
