Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Design Engineer to lead high‑voltage substation design, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical excellence from concept to construction. You will collaborate with clients and cross‑functional teams to deliver compliant, reliable solutions that power critical infrastructure.

The role supports remote work within the United States with preferred hybrid options near office locations, including Fort Worth, TX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 10+ years of experience in Substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations using applicable codes and client standards.
• Produce general arrangement, equipment/electrical layout, elevations, cable trench, grounding, conduit drawings, BOMs, and AC/DC power systems.
• Design ground grids and lightning protection plans.
• Perform calculations (AC/DC load, bus spans, ampacity).
• Prepare equipment/material specifications and develop design scope and cost estimates.
• Create conceptual designs/layouts for facility planning studies.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present solutions.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and perform engineering package reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and reviewers to ensure quality and consistency.
