Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Design Engineer to direct high‑voltage substation projects, mentor junior engineers, and drive design excellence from concept through construction.

Based in the US, this role supports remote work with preferred hybrid options near listed office locations, including Raleigh, NC. You’ll lead complex engineering tasks and ensure quality, safety, and reliability across critical infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations using applicable codes and client standards.
• Prepare general arrangement, equipment layouts, drawings, BOM, and power systems.
• Design ground grids, lightning protection, and grounding plans.
• Perform AC/DC load, bus spans, and ampacity calculations.
• Develop equipment specifications and design scope with cost estimates.
• Lead client meetings, coordinate with teams, and ensure QA/QC compliance.
