Job summary

Qualus leads the design of high-voltage substations, serving as a technical expert and mentor to junior engineers while delivering code-compliant solutions from concept through construction for critical infrastructure projects.

The role partners with clients and multidisciplinary teams across the US to ensure safety, reliability, and quality, with opportunities for remote and hybrid work depending on location and role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 10+ years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines with effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations per applicable codes and client standards.
• Create GA, equipment/layout, elevations, trenching, grounding, conduit drawings, BOMs, and AC/DC systems.
• Design grounding grids and lightning protection.
• Perform AC/DC load, bus span, and ampacity calculations.
• Develop equipment specs, scope, and cost estimates for procurement.
• Lead conceptual designs and facility layouts for planning studies.
• Prepare documentation to support procurement, construction, and operation/maintenance.
