Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Substation Physical Design Engineer III to design high-voltage substations, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical excellence across complex utility projects.

This role may be performed remotely within the United States with hybrid options at preferred office locations; you will collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable power solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage several projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Detail-oriented with good documentation practices.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations with general arrangement, layouts, grounding, and BOM.
• Create ground grids, lightning protection and grounding plans.
• Perform AC/DC load, bus span, and ampacity calculations.
• Develop equipment specifications and cost estimates.
• Prepare conceptual designs and facility layouts for planning studies.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Attend client meetings and site visits to collect data and present solutions.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and review engineering packages.
• Mentor junior engineers and review calculations and drawings.
