Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Substation Physical Design Engineer III to design high-voltage substations and provide technical leadership. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams from concept through construction, ensuring quality, safety, and reliability across projects.

Remote work within the United States is possible, with preferred hybrid roles near designated office locations including Fort Worth, TX.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
• 4–7 years of substation physical design experience.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong document management and organization skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations per codes and client standards.
• Prepare general arrangement and electrical layouts including BOM.
• Design ground grids, lightning protection and grounding plans.
• Perform AC/DC load, bus spans, and ampacity calculations.
• Develop equipment specifications and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
• Support project execution through site visits and client meetings.
• Ensure QA/QC processes and design package approvals.
• Mentor junior engineers and review calculations and drawings.
