Job summary

WSP is seeking a Renewable Energy Electrical Engineering Lead for our Buffalo, NY office, with consideration for NY, IL, CO, and TX locations. The role involves leading design, due diligence, permitting, and construction support for distributed generation projects across sectors.

Responsibilities include developing electrical designs (DC/AC), reviews of calculations, and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring compliance with industry codes and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience as an electrical engineer in renewable energy.
• Professional Engineer license or obtainable within 1 year.
• Proficient with electrical engineering principles and design for permitting and project work.
• Extensive knowledge of electrical interconnection design.
• Familiarity with protection & controls (P&C), DAS/SCADA.
• Experience in electrical infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and reviews for DC/AC systems, protection, and control schemes.
• Oversee multi-site due diligence, permitting, and construction support.
• Develop electrical models, calculations, and reports for diverse project sizes.
• Ensure compliance with NEC/IEEE/NESC standards and safety requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates; manage project scope and budgets.
• Coordinate with owners, sub-consultants, and clients on design deliverables.
• Collaborate on regulatory and permit applications across jurisdictions.
