Job summary

Humana Inc. seeks a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver foundational real-time recommendation services for the NBA platform.

You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring robustness, auditability, and enterprise-scale performance. The role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering across Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript, including automated testing, observability, and production readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering with leadership experience in platform reliability or production operations.
• Experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Automation of testing: unit/integration/e2e/load/quality automation.
• Observability: logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, alerting.
• Reliability patterns for distributed systems: fault tolerance, retries, resilience, recovery.
• Lead a small engineering pod and manage contractors while contributing as an IC.
• Cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Clear communication of operational risks and tradeoffs to leaders.
• AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot to boost productivity.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery for platform scale and reliability across the NBA platform.
• Maintain uptime, performance, resilience, and quality across services.
• Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks across multiple testing levels.
• Contribute production code and build reliability tooling and observability capabilities.
• Define logging, metrics, tracing, and monitoring strategies for the platform.
• Establish patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, and recovery.
• Drive scalability initiatives to improve performance and cost efficiency.
• Define release readiness criteria and operational quality gates.
• Lead engineers and contractors; perform code reviews and uphold standards.
• Collaborate with cross-team stakeholders to address reliability risks early.
