Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to serve as the liaison between patients, families and payers, ensuring accurate demographic data and secure payments. You will verify insurance benefits, obtain authorizations, and coordinate with hospital teams to optimize revenue cycle processes.

The role requires 3+ years in patient registration and strong English communication, with preferred ED experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 3 years patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting is required.
• Emergency Department registration experience is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors is required.
• Demonstrates leadership capabilities.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Proficiency with MS Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
• Fluency in English both written and verbal is required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between patient/family, payers, Patient Financial Services, and health care team members.
• Facilitate patient tracking and billing by obtaining and verifying demographic information.
• Verify insurance benefits and confirm correct payor and plan in the patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Assist in maximizing collection efficiency at the time of service.
