Emerus Holdings, Inc. seeks a Patient Access Specialist to act as a liaison between patients, payers and Patient Financial Services, facilitating patient tracking and billing by verifying demographic information and securing out-of-pocket responsibility to maximize hospital reimbursement.

The role requires compliance with EMTALA, DNV, and HIPAA, outstanding customer service, accurate data entry, and coordination of patient transfers as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook) preferred.
• Fluency in English; written and oral communication.
• Fluency in English & Spanish required in the El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all other hospital and government regulations applicable to Admissions settings and handling of Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service by effectively meeting customer needs and building quality relationships.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to the hospital to support patient safety.
• Answer telephone professionally and communicate messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete and accurate demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and ensure correct payor and plan are entered.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Support collections at the time of service in a customer service-oriented manner.
• Scan registrations and clinical documents into system and maintain medical records.
• Assist with coordinating patient transfers between hospitals as needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer according to policies.
• Maintain logs of patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
