Job summary

Boom is seeking a principal electrical engineer to own the end-to-end electrical system for a 42 MW gas turbine powering AI data centers. You will own architecture, protection, instrumentation, and controls interfaces across the engine, from concept through validated hardware.

You will work across power electronics, protection, instrumentation, and controls, partnering with propulsion, mechanical, and test teams to integrate electrical systems into a blank-sheet turbine platform.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years designing and proving electrical systems for power-dense, safety-critical hardware or first-of-its-kind platforms.
  • Depth in at least two areas: power distribution, protection, instrumentation, high-power electronics, or controls hardware.
  • Track record of taking a system from blank page to tested hardware and owning outcomes when it fails.
  • Comfort making decisions with incomplete information and quickly adapting when new data changes the picture.
  • Hands-on lab and test experience debugging with a probe.

Responsibilities

  • Own the electrical architecture for major portions of the system (power distribution, protection, instrumentation, controls interfaces).
  • Design and build systems that monitor, protect, and sense the engine under real operating conditions.
  • Collaborate with propulsion, mechanical, controls, and test engineering to integrate electrical systems into a gas turbine platform built from scratch.
  • Manage vendor relationships for outsourced hardware components.
  • Lead root-cause investigations when hardware doesn't behave as expected during tests.
  • Set technical direction for other engineers working within the system.
