Job summary

Boom Supersonic in Denver, CO is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to own the end-to-end electrical system of the 42 MW gas turbine powering our AI data centers.

You will oversee architecture, power distribution, protection, instrumentation, and controls interfaces, partnering with propulsion, mechanical, and test engineering to integrate electrical systems into a blank-sheet engine platform and to debug real-time during tests.

Qualifications

• 7+ years designing and proving electrical systems for power-dense hardware.
• Depth in at least two of: power distribution, protection systems, instrumentation, high-power electronics, or controls hardware.
• Experience taking a system from blank page to tested hardware and owning what happens when it doesn’t work the first time.
• Comfort making difficult decisions with incomplete information and the ability to quickly respond when new information invalidates those decisions.
• Hands-on lab and test experience where you debug with a probe in your hand, not just a datasheet.

Responsibilities

• Own the electrical architecture for major portions of Boom Supersonic, from concept through finalized and validated hardware.
• Design and build the systems that monitor, protect, and sense the engine under real operating conditions.
• Partner directly with propulsion, mechanical, controls, and test engineering to integrate electrical systems into a gas turbine platform built from scratch.
• Effectively manage vendor relationships for critical pieces of outsourced hardware.
• Lead root-cause investigation when hardware doesn’t behave as the model said it would, in real time, during a test.
• Set technical direction for other engineers working within your system.
